What is the range of the Routica Explorer Wireless Gateway Router?
Approximately 30m without line-of-sight interruption.
Does the Wireless Gateway Routers function in all weather conditions?
The routers are not affected by cloud cover or stormy conditions. As long as you have sufficient cellular signal strength or Wi-Fi as WAN connection, you should be able to reach the Internet. However, severe weather conditions may cause interference with wireless signals.
Where can the Routica Explorer Wireless Gateway Router be installed in the RV? Can it be placed anywhere inside the vehicle?
We recommend you place your Routica Explorer Wireless Gateway Router at a central location for optimal coverage. Usually, the electronics cabinet in the living space is a good option, keeping in mind the antenna kit you have selected.
Does the Wireless Gateway Routers stay on when I turn the RV or boat off (no power)?
The Wireless Gateway Routers require constant power at 12VDC to function, since they do not have a built-in battery to keep it powered up when the RV or power source turns off. It is recommended to use the AC/DC adapter provided plugged into a 120VAC power outlet. Alternatively, the Wireless Gateway Router requires a fused 9-36VDC negative ground (12VDC negative ground recommended) connection to the RV secondary battery, if so equipped. For marine use, connect it to your vessel's auxiliary power system to maintain connectivity when the main engine is off.
How do I install the router on my boat?
For optimal performance, install the router in a dry, central location on your vessel. Consider your antenna placement for the best signal reception. Our user-friendly setup process makes installation straightforward, even for those without technical expertise.
What kind of connectivity does the Wireless Gateway Routers provide?
The Wireless Gateway Routers support Cellular, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet connectivity.
- They come with an option of either a CAT 4, CAT 6, or CAT 12 cellular modems.
- The Wi-Fi support includes 2.4/5.8GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac.
- The Ethernet (WAN or LAN) has gigabit support.
What cellular carriers do the Wireless Gateway Routers work with?
Both routers support North American LTE, UMTS, and GSM networks, with Explorer II including global 5G network support.
- In the US we support Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
- In Canada we support Bell, Rogers, and Telus.
- Other third-party cellular carriers may also be used, with some caveats.
Do I need constant cellular connectivity for Wireless Gateway Routers to be on?
The Wireless Gateway Routers can work with either a cellular or external Wi-Fi connection. In remote locations without any cellular coverage, you will not have connectivity.
What cellular bands do the Wireless Gateway Routers support?
Our routers are configured to work with North American LTE, UMTS, and GSM networks in general.
How are the Wireless Gateway Routers better than a mobile hotspot?
Our routers support many different antenna options which provide superior connectivity, throughput, and range compared to a general mobile hotspot. The Wireless Gateway Routers also support up to 64 connected devices. We also offer many other premium features to enhance your road connectivity.
Can I connect multiple devices with your router?
The Wireless Gateway Routers allow connectivity for up to sixty-four devices at a time. This can be a combination of Ethernet or Wi-Fi devices! Your entire family can be connected without worries.
Can I use my existing SIM card with Routica LTE modem?
While it is possible, we recommend using a dedicated data SIM. This prevents any wear and tear that may occur with the SIM card.
How does the Explorer II's Wi-Fi 6 support enhance my connectivity experience?
The Explorer II features Wi-Fi 6 support, providing up to 2167 Mbps on the 5.8GHz band. This advanced Wi-Fi technology offers faster speeds and better performance in crowded environments, ensuring a seamless and reliable connection for all your devices.
With independent 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz Wi-Fi radios, the router can handle multiple devices without compromising on speed or stability.
Do I have to install any software on my computer for the router to operate?
No. Setup and monitoring is only via the Routica Mobile App on your smartphone or tablet.
Which operating systems does the Routica Mobile App support?
The Routica Mobile App only supports Android and IOS smartphones and tablets at this time.
How do I set up the Routica Mobile App?

Can I share my trip(s) with my loved ones?
The Wireless Gateway Routers capture a breadcrumb trail of your journey that can be shared with anyone you choose. This includes authorized friends and family or another co-owner using our remote tracking feature, or anyone else via a web hyperlink.

What extra features do I get with a premium subscription?
With a free version, you can use router networking to configure and view externally shared trips. If you have a router, you can also use Sentry for additional functionality.
With a premium subscription, you unlock Mobile Location Tracking, which uses your phone’s GPS to map your adventures in real time. You'll also gain enhanced sharing options, allowing for more seamless trip documentation and sharing. Additionally, premium users benefit from exclusive features designed to make tracking, organizing, and revisiting their journeys more powerful and convenient.
How Can I use the Routica App without the router?
The Routica App works perfectly on its own. You can create and log your adventures, upload photos and videos, and share your journeys with friends and family. It's great for documenting your travels whether you're driving, biking, hiking, or boating.
What is GNSS Trip Tracking on the Explorer II, and how does it work?
GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) Trip Tracking on the Explorer II allows you to record and view your travel history in real time. Using multi-satellite positioning (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou), it provides precise location data that can be viewed on the Routica Mobile App. This is ideal for sharing trips, navigation, and vehicle security tracking.
